Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele has been ruled out for “three to four weeks” in a new blow for the French forward, his club announced on Monday. Dembele hurt himself after coming off the bench in the second half of Sunday’s 4-2 win away to Real Sociedad in La Liga. The injury is different to the hamstring tear that ruled him out for three and half months. “After the game against Real Sociedad, Dembele had a problem with his left thigh and tests have confirmed that the player has suffered a hamstring injury of the semitendinosus muscle that does not affect the area operated on earlier in the season,” Barcelona said in a statement published on their website. “The injury will mean he will be out for a period of around three to four weeks.” He now faces a race against time to be ready for the first leg of Barca’s Champions League tie against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on February 20. Dembele only returned at the start of this month after tearing his hamstring in September. The...

Minister of  Transportation and former governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, on Saturday, January 13, wept while addressing the people of Omoku in the state, where many were killed on New Year's Day. He had paid a condolence visit to the bereaved families, assuring them that the killers will face the wrath of the law. He said, "The only thing I can assure you is that the perpetrators of this act will be brought to justice. They cannot run away from it. They can’t get away with this. "I was at the hospital to see a little boy that was shot, and his father and mother killed. How do you want that little boy to live? How would he cope in life? They must pay for their actions." He, again, blamed the violence on his successor, Governor Nyesom Wike whom he said failed to protect the lives of Rivers people. Amaechi stated this at another event but on the same day - in Isiokpo, where the Ikwerre Youth Movement held a grand reception in his honour. He sa...

Ayefele worked briefly as a broadcaster at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Ibadan, where he also produced jingles and musical works on radio. He began his music career in 1997 after he was involved in an automobile accident, which damaged his spinal cord and confined him to a wheelchair. While in the hospital, after spending about nine months, his friend, Kola Olootu visited and advised him to put some songs together. This suggestion resulted in the release of his debut album titled, Bitter Experience in 1998, which brought him into limelight. He never looked back since then. In this interview with Hazeez Balogun, he reminisces on life before and after the accident that changed his life, and his plans for the future. 20 years after the accident, what is your reflection these passing years? The accident helped me know how important our spinal cords are. Each time I remember the pains I go through, I reflect on the importance of spinal cord at all time. I remember the...

The Lagos State Government has begun moves to tackle high-profile tax defaulters in the state and ensure high level of compliance with its tax laws. As part of this initiative, the state government has moved against some celebrities in the state, who are alleged to be tax evaders despite their earnings from their business. A court paper, sighted by Sunday Punch on Saturday, indicated that the state government had dragged sensational singer, David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, before the court for alleged tax evasion. Also, a reliable source in government told Sunday Punch that the state had equally moved against popular comedian, Ayo Makun, better known as AY, for allegedly failing to pay tax. Davido, the Chief Executive Officer of HKN Music, Lagos, has been charged before a Lagos High Court in July 2017 and risk a jail term if convicted. AY has had a longer history in court against the state as he was charged to court in 2016 for failing to file his tax retu...

There are so many reasons why most recipes include the use of onions. One of which is because onions are a great way to build flavor in a dish. Onions get their distinctive flavor from sulfur, which they absorb from the soil they’re grown in. when cooked, the various sulfur compounds in onions, react with one another and produce new flavors ranging from nutty to sweet. However, there’s a downside to that entire delicious, flavor producing sulfur because it seems virtually impossible to chop some particular onion without crying. Why Onions Make You Cry According to the Institute of Food Science and Technology, Onions make us tear, because it contains certain chemicals. ‘’Onions contain naturally occurring amino acids called sulfoxides, and when you cut into them, their cell walls become damaged’. This causes the sulfoxides to be converted into a super-annoying and irritating gas. The gas wafts from the onion into your eyes, which start to sting and produce tears in an attempt t...

Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane, has been left fighting for his job in the second half of the LaLiga season, after his team were shocked 1-0 at home by Villarreal on Saturday. If their rivals and table toppers Barcelona beat Real Sociedad on Sunday, they could open a 19-point gap, although Zidane’s men have one outstanding game. There is also no guarantee that the champions will finish in the top four either as things stand, given Villarreal are now just one point behind them in fifth. Zidane’s side have now failed to beat Valencia, Levante, Betis, Tottenham, Fuenlabrada, Barcelona and Numancia at home this campaign. Despite winning back-to-back Champions League trophies and a first league title since 2012, Zidane could still be sacked by the notoriously impatient president, Florentino Perez. Already, names like Carlo Ancelotti and Jose Mourinho, have been linked with a return to the Santiago Bernabeu. Zidane will be looking to put Real’s campaign back on track this...
