Dangote, BUA, others to get 2018 sugar import quota soon

The federal government will soon release new sugar import quota for Dangote, BUA and other sugar refineries involved in Backward Integration Programme in the sugar sector of the economy. This was disclosed on Saturday in Abuja by the Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC), Dr. Latif Busari, while reviewing the activities of the council in 2017 and making projections for 2018. Dr. Busari revealed that the Council has reversed downward the 2018 sugar projection for the country to 1.58 million metric tons from the 1.6 million metric tons initially projected in the Sugar Master Plan. He also revealed that the council with relevant monitoring groups have concluded the review of the Backward Integration Programme implementation by participants and a new sugar import quota for participants will be released in January based on the approval of the President. It has been revealed that the Federal Government is losing over N10billion daily, to the Apapa Wharf gridlock. According to The Sun News, President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, disclosed this at the end of a government/private sector meeting on how to resolve the Apapa traffic gridlock, presided over by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo. Dangote also disclosed to State House Correspondents that reconstruction will start on the Apapa-Oworonshoki Expressway by next week. “Apapa-Oworoshoki Way is going to start next week. Everything, including the design, have been handed over. We will start work next week. “The bidding process is going to go on where four, five contractors will bid. Anyone who wins the contract, we will fund the project under the agreement that we have,” the business mogul said.
