Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has released telephone numbers to call to report any strange movement of herdsmen in the State. This is contained in a terse statement on Friday by his spokesman, Lere Olayinka. “Members of the public should endeavour to call any of the numbers or send SMS in the event of strange movement of herdsmen and other suspected criminal elements in the State. “The phone lines will be on 24 hours. 08104780752; 09070769294; 09038122504; 08104730482”, it reads. Recall that on Wednesday, the governor met with Ekiti hunter over herdsmen menace. Fayose warned that the state will fight anyone who attempts to create anarchy and bloodletting. “On the issue of protection of the lives of Ekiti people, I’m not one that will want to be politically correct (sic). Protection of lives must be done anyway which way. “The message is simple: Don’t take laws into your hands, but defend Ekiti and its people,” he said.

The Nigerian Police Force has reacted to calls by Nigerians for the scrapping of its Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS. There is ongoing social media campaign calling on police to scrap its SARS unit. But the police said contrary to claims of wrongdoings against SARS by some “criminals”, the anti-robbery unit had done a lot in sanitising the country. The police said those carrying out the campaign in the social media were armed robbers. It also asked well meaning Nigerians to disregard what it described as so-called special media campaign against SARS. NIGERIA Labour Congress, NLC, has commiserated with the government and people of Adamawa State over the killing of 50 worshippers in Mubi by a suspected Boko Haram suicide bomber and the slaying of 30 herders by yet to be identified assailants. The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has been ranked worst in the world according to the 2016 World Internal Security and Police Index (WISPI). The WISPI was released by two bodies – the International Police Science Association and the Institute for Economics and Peace. The report which measured the police’ ability to address internal security issues, assessed police in 127 countries based on four metrics—capacity, process, legitimacy and outcomes. Policemen saddled with the responsibility of impounding banned motorcycles in Calabar, Cross River State capital, on Friday embarked on free for all in front of the Governor’s office. DAILY POST reports that the men fought over who should take custody of some motorcycles impounded and brought to the former office of Emergency Response Center (ERC), located directly opposite the governor’s office. Two vehicles loaded with the impounded motorcycles arrived the ERC and stopped opposite the first gate of the governor’s office and after a lot of argument among the policemen, some of whom were hooded; they eventually drove into the ERC premises where the argument developed into a fisticuffs. A white Mercedes Benz G-Wagon belonging to Governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, was on Tuesday completely burnt down on the Oshodi-Oworonshoki expressway in Lagos. Confirming the incident, Fayose’s spokesman, Lere Olayinka said the SUV caught fire on the motion but the Governor was not in the vehicle. “No casualty recorded. Cause of the fire not ascertained yet. “There was an accident involving the governor’s vehicle on his way to the airport yesterday. Six Fulani herdsmen were reportedly killed and beheaded by suspected members of a militant group named Irigwe in Kuri village in Bassa local government area of Plateau state on Sunday, October 15th. According to reports, the incident occurred on Sunday, October 15th, at about 3pm when the Fulani herdsmen while grazing their cattle at Kuri village in Bassa LGA were attacked, slaughtered, beheaded and their heads catered away by the Irigwe militia. In addition, a total of forty (40) sheep nine (9) cows were macheted and killed and a total of two hundred and thirty-two (232) herds of cattle belonging to the families of the deceased persons were rustled.
