Policeman escorting frozen chicken allegedly kills taxi driver

Tragedy struck in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State on Sunday when a policeman attached to a yet to be identified firm shot and killed a taxi driver. The incident, which happened in Rumuokoro axis of the area, caused commotion as policemen cordoned off the scene of the incident and shot into the air at regular intervals. It was gathered that the policeman who allegedly shot and killed the taxi driver identified as Bright, was escorting a vehicle conveying frozen chicken and fish to an unknown destination. Sources said the taxi driver was by the side of the road when the mobile policeman suddenly jumped out of the truck, went to the driver and shot him in the neck at close range. Police kills undergraduate over N200 bribe

A student of Delta State Polytechnic, Sofia Oghogho, has been allegedly shot dead by a policeman identified as Sergeant Abua, who is attached to the Igbuzo Police Division, in Delta State. Also shot by Abua, at a checkpoint in the community, was a civil servant, Victor Emeagwai. The victims were in a Toyota Corolla, driven by an estate agent, Jerry Akinlabi, when the incident happened. Oghogho and Emeagwai were Akinlabi’s girlfriend and friend, respectively. Punch newspaper reports that a team of five policemen, including Abua, had flagged down Ogogo at a checkpoint along Igbuzo Market. One of the policemen, identified as Nwokolo, was said to have demanded money from Akinlabi and the driver told him that he did not have N200 to give him. Nwokolo reportedly said he would take one of the N1,000 notes Jerry had on him. The Nigerian Police Force has reacted to calls by Nigerians for the scrapping of its Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS. There is ongoing social media campaign calling on police to scrap its SARS unit. But the police said contrary to claims of wrongdoings against SARS by some “criminals”, the anti-robbery unit had done a lot in sanitising the country. The police said those carrying out the campaign in the social media were armed robbers. It also asked well meaning Nigerians to disregard what it described as so-called special media campaign against SARS. Speaking with Vanguard, Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, vowed that the criminals won’t have their way.
