Arsenal ready to make Ozil highest-paid player in club’s history

Arsenal are making one last attempt to keep Mesut Ozil at the club. The Germany midfielder is in the final year of his current contract, but the Gunners are trying to persuade him to sign a new onw. Ozil has impressed in recent weeks and Arsenal have already offered him a deal north of £235,000-per-week. The new offer will be closer to the £300,000-per-week Ozil is looking for, but it remains to be seen whether the 29-year-old will put pen to paper. If he does sign, it would make the former Real Madrid man the highest earner in the club’s history. Manchester United and Barcelona are both monitoring the player’s situation at the Emirates. watching developments closely with a view to taking Ozil on a free transfer when his current deal expires.

Tinubu: Govs may be influential but APC must be careful not to go the way of PDP

A leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has cautioned that the party must be careful in order not to commit the mistake of promoting an automatic ticket as the Peoples Democratic Party. Tinubu stated this in reaction to a statement credited to Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha statement that the former Lagos State governor was crying more than the bereaved. Okorocha had made the statement in response to media report that Tinubu, had during an interview in Akure, the Ondo State capital, frowned at APC governors’ endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari as the party sole candidate in 2019, allegedly describing the governors as being irrelevant an insignificant to the party’s nomination process. Ambode presents N1.046 trillion budget, targets N60b monthly IGR

Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode presenting the 2018 budget to the state House of Assembly at Alausa, Ikeja… yesterday Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode yesterday presented N1.046 trillion 2018 budget estimates to the House of Assembly, saying the state hopes to generate on the average N60 billion monthly to finance it. The proposed budget, the governor said, represents an increase of 28.67 per cent over 2017 budget with recurrent expenditure of N347.039 billion and capital expenditure of N699 billion. Ambode, who stated that the estimate of total revenue for year 2018 is N897.423 billion of which N720.123 billion will be generated internally, said the state intends to improve on its Internally-Generated Revenue (IGR) in the face of the dwindling accruable revenue allocation from the Federal Government, as well as sustain its vision on wealth creation and poverty alleviation. Real Madrid ‘agree deal’ to sign Neymar from PSG

Real Madrid have agreed a deal to sign Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain as soon as 2019. Neymar only left Barcelona for the Ligue 1 champions last summer, for a world-record fee of £200million. But according to reports in Spain, the Brazil superstar has already come to an agreement with Real. The forward, according to Diario Gol, will spend another 18 months at PSG before returning to Spain. Neymar is desperate to win the Ballon d’Or and believes he has a better chance of achieving his dream with the European champions. Real president, Florentino Perez, hinted at a plan to sign both Neymar and his PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe earlier this week. “Mbappe is 18 years old, let’s leave him to develop and see how far he can go,” Perez told El Partidazo de COPE. “We have the best players. Recruit Neymar and wait for Mbappé to develop? That’s not a bad idea!”

Yesterday Joy Ezechikamnayo took over the reins of affairs in Abia State for 24 hours on Monday December 11th.  Joy , an SS3 student and senior prefect of Intellectual Giants Christian Academy, Umuahia emerged the state one-day governor after a rigorous essay competition organized by the state government.  The 20 top performers in the essay competition were designated as follows: 1st position-Governor 2nd position - Deputy Governor 3rd position - SSG 17 others are Commissioners Today, the state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu handed over power to her. Liverpool and Egypt star Salah named African Footballer of the Year 2017

Egyptian and Liverpool's record signing Mohamed Salah won the African player of the year beating the likes of team mate Sadio Mane,Chelsea star Victor Moses,Red bull liepzeg midfielder Naby Keita, Dortmund forward Pierre emrick aubameyang to win the prestigious award. India outrage over brutal rape and murder of six-year-old

Police in India are questioning several people in connection with the brutal rape and murder of a six-year-old in the northern state of Haryana. Her body was found on Sunday close to her home from where she was allegedly abducted on the night of 8 December. The extent of the injuries to the child have horrified Indians, with many drawing parallels with the 2012 Delhi bus rape that caused massive outrage. The child's mother told BBC Hindi's Manoj Dhaka that they wanted justice. "It's been 24 hours and the police are yet to catch anyone," she said Police have detained three of her husband's relatives for questioning but no arrests have been made so far. However no details have been released. The government has formed a special investigative team as public pressure mounts on authorities to catch those responsible for the crime. A producer/reporter with Daar Communications in Bayelsa, Patience Owe is in critical condition after being attacked by suspected armed robber. According to Julius Bokoru, editor-in-chief at Izom Writers Review, he was called to the scene of the violent robbery by one James Baridi around 10 pm on Saturday night,  where they found the victim llying in pool of her blood. It was learnt that the lone gunman trailed her from a Winners church where she had gone to watch the livestream of Shiloh 2017. He showed the gun, took her phone, jewelry and cash and then shot her at close range. They rushed her to Tobis Hospital but doctors demanded for police report and large sum of money.
