A man out hunting kangaroos got more than he bargained for after an animal fought back and smashed his jaw. Joshua Hayden, 19, was hunting near Kellerberrin in Western Australia on Tuesday night when a kangaroo attacked. Hayden, hunting with his brother in their car, spotted three kangaroos in a paddock, so leant out of the window to shoot.           (Hayden Joshua after the encounter) He said one had disappeared from view, but as he was lining up the other two in his crosshairs, it suddenly appeared and attacked the car. The animal hit the side of the vehicle with such force it smashed the front window, before headbutting Hayden right in the jaw and breaking it. Tragedy struck in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State on Sunday when a policeman attached to a yet to be identified firm shot and killed a taxi driver. The incident, which happened in Rumuokoro axis of the area, caused commotion as policemen cordoned off the scene of the incident and shot into the air at regular intervals. It was gathered that the policeman who allegedly shot and killed the taxi driver identified as Bright, was escorting a vehicle conveying frozen chicken and fish to an unknown destination. Sources said the taxi driver was by the side of the road when the mobile policeman suddenly jumped out of the truck, went to the driver and shot him in the neck at close range. Six people were killed last weekend when cattle herders battled farmers in northeast Nigeria, a state government official said on Tuesday, in violence that has piled pressure on the government. The clashes happened on Sunday in the Numan district of Adamawa state, where militia from the ethnic Bachama farming community killed at least 30 Fulani herders last November. “Six people were killed and many others were injured in attacks on two villages, Kikan and Lauru,” Adamawa state information commissioner Ahmad Sajo told AFP. “A group of Fulani attacked Kikan, which is a Bachama village, killing three people, injuring many and carting away cattle.” He added: “Bachama youths in the area mobilised and launched a reprisal attack on nearby Lauru village.” But the attack may have targeted the wrong community, as Lauru is home to Hausa-speaking Muslims who are not Fulani people. “They are largely vegetable growers,” said Sajo. “They (the Bachama) killed three people, burned ...

Minister of  Transportation and former governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, on Saturday, January 13, wept while addressing the people of Omoku in the state, where many were killed on New Year's Day. He had paid a condolence visit to the bereaved families, assuring them that the killers will face the wrath of the law. He said, "The only thing I can assure you is that the perpetrators of this act will be brought to justice. They cannot run away from it. They can’t get away with this. "I was at the hospital to see a little boy that was shot, and his father and mother killed. How do you want that little boy to live? How would he cope in life? They must pay for their actions." In my adult age, I have regrettably come to know eulogies are hard to extend to the Armed Forces or armed men in uniform nowadays. Though the Nigerian Army is indubitably the most prominent among the three arms of Nigerian military, it is one such institution which suffers public ignominy. Nigerian soldiers, hitherto revered, in my days of youth, became derided and hardly appreciated by the same people it serves at a minutely risk of their lives. No one was ready to sympathize with them in their moments of trials or even think positively of their salvation roles in nationhood. The Chief of Ikulu, Mr Yohanna Kukah, has been released by his abductors, the police confirmed on Thursday, January 11, 2018. Kukah was reportedly freed around 3p.m. on Thursday. The spokesman for the Nigeria Police Command in Kaduna State, ASP Mukhtar Aliyu said traditional ruler was unhurt and had re-united with his family. He said, "On the issue of ransom paid before his release I cannot confirm that. "We are doing everything humanly possible to arrest the suspect." Kukah, who is the Chief Ikulu in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was abducted in the evening of January 2 at his residence. He is a brother of the Rt. Rev. Mathew Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese.

Former Nigeria goalkeeper  Raymond King has died on Monday at the age of 52. According to King’s former teammate, Taju Disu, the former Abiola Babes keeper died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, after he was transferred from the Ikorodu General Hospital. King was last week reported to be down with partial stroke and memory loss, and was initially admitted at the State Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta, Ogun State. Disu said King was taken to the Ikorodu General Hospital after his health was not improving. He was later referred from there to LASUTH, Ikeja, where he gave up the ghost. “He was transferred from the State Hospital, Abeokuta to Ikorodu General Hospital yesterday (Sunday) when his condition was not improving.  Controversial Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose on Christmas Day supervised the distribution of petrol at the government-determined price of N145 per litre in a filling station in the state. The governor reportedly engaged in sale of the property at Alade Filling Station along Iyin Road in the state capital. He said he took the decision to empathise with the people and ease their suffering in getting the product. Fayose disclosed that reports had reached him that the APC-led government was devising a means to increase the pump price of fuel to increase the suffering of the masses. The tanker laden with petroleum product lost control on the link bridge and fell, spilling the content and an attendant inferno.
